Complementarianism v Egalitarianism

OK, fooled ya. You saw the heading and thought this was going to be a deep, controversial, theological post. Nope. Just a silly a little video about a little boy being told he can’t sing with his sisters because he is not a girl.  Thus, the post title.

But, on another note (pun intended), notice the tough crowd he has. He is getting the frownie-face   :-(    and thumbs-down signal from the back seat until he changes the song. This guy is a worship leader in the Atlanta area. One would think leading worship (and working the car radio) would be easy, but often times our worship leaders just get flack.  It's not an easy job.

Have you been critical? When was the last time you prayed for our worship team?  Their role is important.  Many hours, thoughts and prayers go into each weeks preparation.  Let's pray for them, because they're praying for us.

More on spiritual humor & evangelism

I came across an interview this week with Phil Vischer.  You may not recognize that name, but you will recognize his creation - Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber and the rest of the Veggie Tale gang.  I think it's pretty safe to say, that the Veggie Tale videos were a hit.  They certainly were with Christians, but they also were with others who just saw the videos as good for their kids and thought they were a quality product.

Well, Phil is at it again.  He is creating The Phil Vischer Show.  I hope it's really good and I think he's on the right track.  Phil feels like too much of the Christian media that has been visible to the world has been dominated by "very dour, older white preachers".  Sorry - I think he's right.  He said; "We'll make a feature-length film, lob it into a few theaters, get our church friends to go see it, and then try to convince ourselves that we've engaged the culture."  Well said Phil!!!

Phil points out that film and TV are medias our culture uses to transmit ideas.  Ignoring that media is ignoring the world - and that's not what Jesus told us to do.  We need to do it right though, and Phil has a good track record. I hope his show does well for many reasons.

One other thought on humor.  I was looking thru a Young Life magazine that came in the mail and came across this quote: "Jesus wasn't just grim and grumpy. You know why we know that?  Because kids wanted to be around Him."  So - humor away.  I think it's Biblical.

Just sorta funny.

As Pastor Brett preached about self-differentiation in sanctification Sunday morning, I couldn't help but think about Joseph.  That's where my Bible reading has me these days.

Joseph certainly was not affected by the opinion of others.  That was clear. But reading about Joseph brought two (somewhat trivial) questions to mind.

The first has to do when Joseph resisted the seduction of "Mrs. Potiphar".  He ends up in jail and some time later gets out and ends up promoted to second in command to the Pharaoh.  My question:  What did Mrs. Potiphar think when the guy she framed leap frogs her husband in the ol' organizational chart?  Just wondering.

Next, after Joseph guides Egypt thru the famine issue, Joseph's brothers come to him for food.  After having a little sport with his older brothers, Joseph eventually asked his brothers to invite his father and all he has to come in live in Egypt.  My second question:     What kind of conversation did Joseph's brothers have with their dad?  Don't you think he asked all the brothers how Joseph ended up where he did?  Just wondering.

These are not deep theological issues.  Actually, they may be more funny than anything.  But really, wouldn't you just want to be a mouse in a corner sometime?

Ann Elliot

I hope by now, you all realize that last Saturday night  we celebrated Ann Elliott's retirement after serving here at CrossPoint for 22 years.  Wow!!  That takes some endurance. How did she do it?  Well, if you were at her party, you know she LOVES chocolate.  Perhaps this video gives insight into how Ann perservered for 22 years.  Was this her as a youngster?
(Hey - nobody said these blog posts had to be serious all the time.)
