Focus

I don't travel much anymore, but when I do, I typically hit "scan" on the rental car radio to find the local Christian radio station.  Being in unfamiliar surroundings and away from friends and family, Christian radio is always a comfort.

But on this last trip, while working on my Sunday School lesson in my hotel room, I had some thoughts  regarding what I had been hearing.  Radio stations (including Christian) tend to promote themselves a bit.  But for a Christian radio station, isn't that a bit an oxymoron?  The station shouldn't be the focus, should it?

The curriculum I'm using to teach the 7th & 8th graders is The Gospel Project.  It emphasizes that the Bible is not about you or me.  It's not a self-help book that will make our life better and easier.  It's about Jesus Christ -- even the Old Testament is about Jesus.

How easy it is to  focus on the creation (i.e. Christian radio, particular churches, certain pastors) rather than the Creator.  What is our focus?  I know my "vision" needs correction on a regular basis.

Our focus needs to be on the One who has conquered sin and reconciled us to Himself.  The Bible should be used to help us know Him better, love Him better and serve Him better.  Creation can help us do that, but we need to make sure we know where our focus is.
