Please allow me to piggyback on Lee's recent post regarding this topic. The elder board has discussed various political topics recently. As a board, we are not endorsing any particular candidate or any specific way to vote. However, we would encourage everyone to vote.
Some Christians are of the mindset that; "This world is not my home. I'm just a passin' through." There is no need to get involved politically. Politics is just a messy, dirty world.
Well folks, I don't think that's biblical. I think we have a right and more importantly a responsibility to vote. We can do more than that as well, but voting is the least we should do.
In Jeremiah 29:7, the Lord says to His people in exile (note - people who were living a place that was not their home): "Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper." In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells us to be the "salt of the earth."
Sorry, but neither of these two passages tell us to just roll into a ball and wait for Jesus to return. We were put here for a reason. I caught the end of the interview with Tony Evans on Focus on the Family coming home today. He talked about being active politically, but to be a Republican-lite and a Democrat-lite. So that -- we can point others to The Light! We need to be involved, but we need to do so appropriately.
Let me leave you with two links.
1) A link to a book this book. It takes 20 minutes to read. You can buy it or it is also at Hennepin County libraries.
2) A link to a 5 minute interview with the author.
Be biblical. Vote this November.
